Pingetalitusels

Pingetalitusels is a fictional genus of small marine crustaceans created for speculative biology and worldbuilding. It does not correspond to any described species in real scientific literature.

In the imagined taxonomy, pingetalitusels belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, class Malacostraca, order Amphipoda, and is the sole genus of the fictional family Pingetalitidae. The type species, Pingetalitusels aurora, is attributed to researchers L. Mirov and S. Park in 2023, based on specimens from temperate submarine canyons.

Morphology is described as a 2–4 mm body with a rounded carapace, a segmented abdomen, and a shield-like anterior. The carapace bears iridescent chromatophores that can shift color, producing a shimmering pattern under light. Limbs are adapted for scavenging on soft seabed substrates, with strong maxillipeds for detritus processing.

Habitat and distribution place pingetalitusels in cold temperate to subpolar shelf waters worldwide, typically at depths of 120–700 meters. They are associated with rocky and muddy substrates and are often found near undersea canyons, ridges, and areas with detrital input.

Ecology and life history describe them as detritivores and micro-suspension feeders. Reproduction is presumed seasonal with planktonic larvae; adults mature within several months and may live one to two years. They are described as gregarious at night, gathering on patches of substrate.
