Pingerids
Pingerids are a family of marine crustaceans belonging to the order Decapoda. They are characterized by their elongated, somewhat flattened bodies and a distinctive, somewhat hardened exoskeleton. These crustaceans are found in various marine environments, often inhabiting soft-sediment substrates like sand and mud. Their common name is thought to derive from their characteristic method of locomotion, which involves a series of rapid, scuttling movements that can appear like "pinging" across the seabed.
The diet of pingerids typically consists of small invertebrates and detritus found in their benthic habitat.
