Pikkuaivotumoreiden, also known as brain tumors, are abnormal growths of cells in the brain. They can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Benign tumors are usually slow-growing and do not spread to other parts of the body, while malignant tumors can grow rapidly and may metastasize. Brain tumors can affect people of any age, but they are more common in adults, particularly those over 50.

The exact cause of brain tumors is not fully understood, but they can be categorized into primary (originating in the brain) and secondary (spreading from other parts of the body). Primary brain tumors can be further classified into several types, including gliomas (originating from glial cells), meningiomas (originating from meninges), and pituitary tumors (originating from the pituitary gland). Secondary brain tumors, also known as metastases, occur when cancer cells from other parts of the body spread to the brain.

Symptoms of brain tumors can vary depending on the location and size of the tumor, as well as the type of tumor. Common symptoms include headaches, seizures, changes in vision, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, memory problems, and personality changes. In some cases, brain tumors may cause no symptoms at all.

Diagnosis of brain tumors typically involves a combination of imaging tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans, and sometimes a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment options depend on the type and location of the tumor, as well as the patient's overall health. Treatment may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or a combination of these approaches. In some cases, brain tumors may be managed with observation or medication to control symptoms.
