Piirikortteja

Piirikortteja is a Finnish term that translates to "circuit boards" or "PCBs" (Printed Circuit Boards). In the context of electronics, it refers to the flat boards on which electronic components are mounted and interconnected. These boards are essential for almost all electronic devices, from simple calculators to complex computers and smartphones.

The manufacturing process of piirikortteja involves several key steps. First, a non-conductive substrate, typically fiberglass or phenolic resin, is used as the base. Copper foil is laminated onto this substrate, and then a pattern of conductive pathways, known as traces, is etched into the copper. These traces connect the various electronic components. Holes are then drilled through the board to allow for component leads or for vias, which are conductive connections between different layers of the board.

Electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and connectors, are then attached to the piirikortteja. This attachment can be done through surface-mount technology (SMT), where components are soldered directly onto pads on the board's surface, or through-hole technology (THT), where component leads are inserted through drilled holes and soldered on the other side. The resulting assembly forms a functional electronic circuit.

Piirikortteja can vary greatly in complexity, from single-sided boards with components on one layer to multi-layered boards with dozens of layers, allowing for very dense and sophisticated circuitry. The design and manufacturing of piirikortteja are critical to the performance, reliability, and miniaturization of modern electronic products.
