Phyllogenite

Phyllogenite is a rare mineral that belongs to the phyllosilicate group. It was first discovered in 1963 in the Phyllonite mine in the Phyllonite district of the Phyllonite region in Greece. The mineral is named after its type locality, Phyllonite.

Phyllogenite has a chemical formula of (Mg,Fe)2SiO5. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system and typically forms prismatic crystals. The mineral is usually found in contact metamorphic rocks, particularly in skarns and hornfels. It often occurs in association with minerals such as diopside, tremolite, and calcite.

The mineral has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of approximately 3.3. It exhibits a pale green to yellowish-green color and has a vitreous to pearly luster. Phyllogenite is not considered to be radioactive.

Phyllogenite is relatively rare and is not commonly found in mineral collections. However, it is of interest to mineralogists due to its unique chemical composition and crystal structure. The mineral's rarity and aesthetic appeal make it a sought-after specimen for collectors.
