Photodeterioration refers to the degradation of materials caused by exposure to light, particularly ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This process is a form of photo-oxidation, where light energy initiates chemical reactions that break down the molecular structure of the material. Common materials susceptible to photodeterioration include plastics, paints, textiles, paper, and even some food products.

The effects of photodeterioration vary depending on the material and the wavelength and intensity of the light.
