Phosphorosaurus is a genus of extinct marine reptile belonging to the mosasaur family. It lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 80 to 70 million years ago. The name Phosphorosaurus means "light-bearing lizard," referring to its bioluminescent capabilities, though direct evidence of bioluminescence is inferred rather than preserved. Fossils of Phosphorosaurus have been found primarily in Europe, notably in Belgium and the Netherlands.
