Phocaea
Phocaea, or Phokaia, was an ancient Greek city-state in Ionia on the western coast of Anatolia. Its ruins lie near the modern town of Foça in Izmir Province, Turkey. In the Archaic period Phocaea developed into a powerful maritime center, renowned for its seafaring, trade networks, and extensive links across the Aegean and western Mediterranean.
