Perusöljyllä

Perusöljyllä refers to a base oil, which is a component used in the formulation of lubricants. These base oils are the foundation upon which lubricants are built, and they determine many of the lubricant's properties. There are several types of base oils, broadly categorized into mineral oils and synthetic oils.

Mineral base oils are derived from crude oil through refining processes. They are further classified into API groups I, II, and III, based on their refining severity and composition. Group I oils are the least refined, while Group III oils are highly refined and possess properties closer to synthetics.

Synthetic base oils are engineered in laboratories and are not derived from crude oil. They include groups IV (polyalphaolefins or PAOs) and V, which encompass a wide range of synthetic fluids like esters, polyglycols, and silicones. Synthetic base oils generally offer superior performance characteristics compared to mineral oils, such as better thermal stability, lower volatility, and improved low-temperature properties.

The choice of base oil is critical for lubricant performance, influencing factors like viscosity, oxidation resistance, wear protection, and additive solvency. Lubricant manufacturers select base oils based on the intended application and the required performance specifications. For example, high-temperature applications often necessitate synthetic base oils with excellent thermal stability.
