Peruskuviota

Peruskuviota, also known as Peruskorva, is a Finnish term that translates to "basic income" in English. The concept of peruskuviota was first proposed by Finnish economist Eino Kaila in 1938. It is a form of universal basic income (UBI) where all citizens receive a regular, unconditional sum of money from the government, regardless of their employment status or income level.

The primary goal of peruskuviota is to provide a financial safety net for all citizens, ensuring that everyone has access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, and healthcare. Proponents of peruskuviota argue that it can reduce poverty, stimulate economic growth, and promote social equality. Critics, however, contend that it could lead to increased government spending and potential inflation, as well as discourage work and entrepreneurship.

In Finland, the idea of peruskuviota has been discussed periodically, but it has not been implemented. The Finnish government has instead focused on other social welfare programs and economic policies. Despite this, the concept continues to be a topic of debate among economists, policymakers, and the general public.

Peruskuviota is not to be confused with other forms of income support, such as unemployment benefits or social security payments, which are typically means-tested and conditional. Instead, peruskuviota is a universal, unconditional payment designed to provide a basic level of financial security for all citizens.
