Perugina

Perugina is an Italian chocolate company based in Perugia, in the region of Umbria. It produces a range of confections and is best known for its flagship product, Baci Perugina, a chocolate-covered treat that has become a symbol of Italian confectionery.

The brand was established in Perugia in the early 20th century and gained fame with the introduction of Baci Perugina in the 1920s. Baci consist of a hazelnut surrounded by a chocolate-hazelnut filling and a wafer, all coated in chocolate and wrapped in blue and gold foil with a small note printed on the inner wrapper. The notes, originally love messages, are a distinctive feature of the product.

Perugina became part of Nestlé’s global confectionery portfolio in the late 20th century. Since then, it has operated as a Nestlé brand, continuing to produce its signature products and other chocolates for international markets. The primary production facilities remain in Perugia, and the brand exports to numerous countries, contributing to the city’s historical association with chocolate making.
