Peroksüdivesinik, commonly known as hydrogen peroxide, is a chemical compound with the formula H₂O₂. It is a clear, colorless liquid, slightly more viscous than water. In its pure form, it is unstable and can decompose explosively. For commercial and household use, it is typically sold in aqueous solutions of varying concentrations.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent. This property makes it useful for a wide range of applications. In medicine, dilute solutions are used as an antiseptic to clean wounds and disinfect surfaces. However, its effectiveness as an antiseptic is debated, and it can sometimes damage healthy tissue.

Industrially, hydrogen peroxide is used in the production of various organic chemicals, as a bleaching agent for textiles and paper, and in wastewater treatment to remove pollutants. It is also a component in some rocket propellants.

The decomposition of hydrogen peroxide releases water and oxygen gas. This reaction can be accelerated by catalysts, such as manganese dioxide or blood. While generally considered safe when handled properly in dilute solutions, concentrated hydrogen peroxide can be corrosive and dangerous, causing burns and other injuries upon contact. It is important to store hydrogen peroxide in a cool, dark place away from incompatible materials to prevent decomposition.
