Permittiviteetissa, more commonly known as permittivity, is a fundamental property of a dielectric medium that describes how an electric field affects, and is affected by, that medium. It quantifies the ability of the medium to store electrical energy in the form of an electric field. When a material is placed in an electric field, its constituent molecules can become polarized, meaning that positive and negative charges within the molecules are slightly displaced. This induced polarization creates an internal electric field that opposes the external field. Permittivity is a measure of how effectively this opposition occurs.
