Perintöveroilmoitus

Perintöveroilmoitus is a declaration form used in Finland for reporting inheritances subject to inheritance tax. When an individual inherits assets, they are obligated to submit this declaration to the Finnish Tax Administration (Verohallinto) within a specific timeframe, usually three months from the date of the inheritance. The purpose of the perintöveroilmoitus is to provide the tax authorities with the necessary information to assess the inheritance tax liability of the beneficiary.

The form requires detailed information about the deceased, the beneficiary, and the inherited assets. This includes the value of the inherited property, such as real estate, financial assets like bank accounts and stocks, and other valuables. Any debts or liabilities of the deceased that are transferred to the beneficiary may also be reported to reduce the taxable inheritance. The beneficiary must also declare any gifts received from the deceased within the last three years, as these can also be subject to inheritance tax.

Accurate and timely filing of the perintöveroilmoitus is crucial. Failure to do so or providing incorrect information can lead to penalties, including late filing fees and additional tax assessments. The Finnish Tax Administration uses the information provided in the declaration to calculate the inheritance tax, which is levied on the net value of the inheritance. The tax rate depends on the value of the inheritance and the relationship between the deceased and the beneficiary, with closer relatives generally paying lower tax rates.
