Perintäprosessiin

Perintäprosessiin, commonly referred to as debt collection in English, is the legal and administrative procedure by which a creditor seeks to recover a debt owed to them by a debtor. This process typically begins when a debt becomes overdue and the creditor has exhausted initial attempts at amicable resolution, such as sending reminders or making phone calls.

The first stage of a formal perintäprosessiin often involves the creditor or a collection agency sending a formal demand letter, also known as a reminder notice, to the debtor. This letter outlines the amount owed, the original due date, and a new deadline for payment, often with added interest and collection costs. If the debtor fails to respond to this notice or make payment within the specified timeframe, the creditor may escalate the process.

Further steps can include legal actions such as obtaining a court order or writ of execution. In Finland, this might involve applying to the Enforcement Authority (Ulosottolaitos) for enforcement measures. These measures can include wage garnishment, seizure of assets, or placing a lien on property.
