Perimättömän

Perimättömän is a Finnish word that translates to "uninherited" or "undescended" in English. It is most commonly used in a legal or genealogical context to describe property or assets that have not passed down through inheritance to the rightful heirs. This can occur for various reasons, such as if there are no surviving heirs, if the heirs are unable or unwilling to inherit, or if the inheritance is otherwise legally blocked.

In situations of intestacy, where a person dies without a valid will, their property is distributed according to the laws of succession. If no heirs can be found under these laws, the property may become escheated to the state. This is an example of perimättömän property. Similarly, if a testator’s will is deemed invalid or if named beneficiaries predecease the testator, the intended inheritance might become perimätöntä.

The concept of perimättömän also applies in cases of renunciation of inheritance. An heir may choose to disclaim their inheritance for various reasons, such as the estate being heavily indebted. In such instances, the portion of the estate that would have gone to that heir becomes perimätöntä and may pass to other heirs or revert to the state.
