Perforeeritud

Perforeeritud is an Estonian adjective describing a material or object that has holes passing through its thickness. The term derives from the verb perforeerima and is used to describe surfaces where a regular array of openings has been made, typically by punching or drilling. In Estonian usage, perforeeritud refers to both the pattern and the resulting material.

The holes may be arranged in regular patterns such as circular, square, or hexagonal arrays, and the size, spacing (pitch), and number of holes influence both function and appearance. Perforeeritud materials can be metal, plastic, wood, or composites, and are common in architectural, industrial, and consumer contexts. Perforeeritud metallilehed, panels and sheets are widely used for ventilation, filtration, light diffusion, or decorative facades. Perforeeritud wood or plywood is used in interior design, screens, and acoustical treatments. The design can affect mechanical strength and weight, so hole diameter, thickness, and pattern must be selected to suit the application.

Production methods include punching, laser or waterjet cutting, and chemical etching. In architecture and product design, perforation serves functional purposes (airflow, filtration, acoustics) and aesthetic goals (texture, transparency). Maintenance and cleaning requirements vary by material, and corrosion resistance or coating may be relevant for outdoor use.
