Percasting

Percasting is a term used to describe the act of rehearsing and internalizing the detailed events of a movie or other form of visual media, often to a degree where a person feels as though they have experienced the events firsthand.

Some individuals who enjoy percasting claim that it allows them to better understand the plot and characters, as well as to appreciate the details and finer points of a story. Others may view percasting as a form of emotional investment, where they become deeply engaged with the characters and the world they inhabit.

Percasting can take many different forms, including predicting plot developments, imagining alternate endings, or even creating their own sequels or alternate universes. While the extent to which individuals engage in percasting can vary widely, some fans of science fiction and fantasy are particularly known for their enthusiasm for this activity.

Certain techniques, such as fast-talking or narrating the dialogue in their head, can help individuals engage in percasting when re-watching a film or TV show. Perboarding is another related concept where one continues acting as if they are still "in character" after the end credits roll. Percasting can be viewed as both a manifestation of a deeper connection with the media and as a creative outlet where individuals explore the possibilities of a fictional narrative.
