Perbromates
Perbromates are salts containing the bromate ion BrO4−, the conjugate base of perbromic acid HBrO4. The bromine in BrO4− is in the +7 oxidation state, making perbromates among the strongest bromine-based oxidizers. The ion adopts a tetrahedral geometry and is most stable in salt form, typically with alkali metals such as sodium or potassium.
Synthesis and occurrence: Perbromates are prepared by oxidizing bromine- or bromate-containing precursors under strongly oxidizing conditions,
Applications: In chemistry, perbromates function as oxidizing agents and reagents in organic and inorganic syntheses. They
Safety: Perbromates are powerful oxidizers and can react violently with organic materials or reducing agents. They
