Pentahidrátként

Pentahidrátként refers to a chemical compound that exists in a hydrated form, specifically containing five molecules of water per molecule of the compound. This hydrated form is often a stable crystalline structure where water molecules are incorporated into the crystal lattice of the substance. The presence of water molecules can significantly alter the physical properties of the compound compared to its anhydrous (water-free) form, such as its solubility, melting point, and color.

Many inorganic salts readily form hydrates. For example, copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate (CuSO4·5H2O), commonly known as blue vitriol, is a well-known pentahydrate. In this case, the five water molecules are coordinated to the copper ion and also hydrogen-bonded within the crystal structure. The formation and properties of pentahydrates are often studied in chemistry to understand hydration energies, crystal structures, and the behavior of ionic compounds in aqueous solutions.

The designation "pentahidrátként" is the Hungarian term for "as a pentahydrate." When a compound is described as being in this form, it indicates that its crystalline structure includes five water molecules per formula unit. This hydration state is crucial for its identity and reactivity. Removing the water molecules, a process called dehydration, can change the compound back to its anhydrous form, often with a different appearance and properties.
