Pentadienes
Pentadienes are a group of conjugated dienes with the chemical formula C5H8. They are hydrocarbons containing five carbon atoms and two double bonds. The presence of two double bonds in conjugation, meaning they are separated by a single bond, gives pentadienes unique chemical properties, particularly their reactivity in addition reactions and polymerization.
There are several isomers of pentadiene, differing in the position of the double bonds. The most common
Pentadienes are typically colorless liquids at room temperature. They are flammable and can have characteristic odors.
Industrially, pentadienes are often obtained as byproducts from the steam cracking of petroleum or natural gas.
