Penlee

Penlee is a coastal locality in west Cornwall, England, lying on the north side of Mount's Bay just west of Penzance and adjacent to the harbor town of Newlyn. The area includes Penlee Point, a rocky headland that forms the western edge of the bay. A Napoleonic-era coastal defense site, Penlee Battery, sits on the headland and features remaining gun platforms and earthworks that can be observed from the surrounding paths and viewpoints.

The Penlee Lifeboat Station, operated by the RNLI at Newlyn, serves Mount's Bay. In December 1981, a rescue operation by the Penlee lifeboat Solomon Browne ended in disaster with the loss of the crew, an event that remains a significant moment in the history of the RNLI and the local community.

Penlee Park, in nearby Penzance, shelters Penlee House Gallery & Museum, which houses a collection of late 19th- and early 20th-century works from the Newlyn School, among others. The area remains a popular walking and viewing point, offering coastal paths and views across the bay toward St Michael's Mount and the Lizard peninsula.
