Penjabat

Penjabat is a title used in Indonesia and Malaysia to designate an official who temporarily performs the duties of a public office. The term, derived from Malay and Indonesian, translates roughly as "acting" or "temporarily occupying a position." A person serving as Penjabat is typically referred to as Penjabat followed by the name of the office, for example Penjabat Gubernur, Penjabat Bupati, or Penjabat Kepala Desa.

Penjabat roles are common during transitions or vacancies, such as after the end of an official's term, resignation, death, or when an election is pending installation of a newly elected official. They may also be appointed to oversee a department or region undergoing administrative change. The Penjabat's authority is usually defined by law and limited to the duration of the appointment.

Appointment and oversight: In Indonesia, such appointments are typically made by higher authorities, such as the president (for national or provincial positions) or a provincial governor for lower levels. In Malaysia or other Malay-speaking contexts, appointments are made by the relevant ministry or state authority.
