Pellinge

Pellinge is an island archipelago and a village in Porvoo municipality, in the Uusimaa region of Finland. It lies in the Gulf of Finland on the southern coast of the country, southeast of Helsinki. The archipelago comprises several rocky islets with pine forests, coves, and a traditional coastal landscape. The largest inhabited island hosts the main settlement, while numerous smaller islands are used for summer cottages and fishing.

Administratively, Pellinge belongs to Porvoo and reflects the coastal communities of the region, with historical ties to both Finnish and Swedish-speaking populations common along the Finnish archipelago coast. The name Pellinge is of Swedish origin and reflects the linguistic heritage of coastal Finland.

Historically, residents depended on fishing, small-scale farming, and maritime trade. The archipelago developed a seasonal economy with summer residents contributing to local activity. In modern times, many residents commute to Porvoo or other nearby towns for work, while the area remains a destination for summer tourism and maritime recreation.

Access is mainly by boat from Porvoo, with several harbors and landing sites across the islands. Some islands have small roads or causeways connecting parts of the archipelago, but there is no permanent road connection to the mainland for all islands.
