Pelletowanie
Pelletowanie is a process of compressing loose biomass into dense, uniformly shaped pellets. This is typically achieved using a pellet mill, which forces the material through a die with precisely sized holes. The pressure and friction generated during this process cause the lignins present in the biomass to soften and act as a natural binder, holding the material together once it cools and solidifies. Common feedstocks for pelleting include wood waste, agricultural residues like straw and husks, energy crops, and even recycled paper. The resulting pellets are a concentrated form of the original material, offering several advantages. Their uniform size and density allow for efficient storage, transportation, and handling. Furthermore, pelleting significantly reduces moisture content and increases the energy density compared to the raw biomass, making them an attractive fuel source. This dense fuel can be easily metered and burned in specialized boilers and furnaces for heating and power generation, offering a renewable alternative to fossil fuels.
