Pelastuslaitosten
Pelastuslaitokset are Finnish municipal and regional authorities responsible for organizing and operating fire protection, rescue services, and related emergency operations. They function under the oversight of the Ministry of the Interior and within the regional rescue service system defined by the Fire and Rescue Services Act (Pelastuslaki). Most pelastuslaitokset are joint municipal authorities formed by municipalities to secure capable, cost-efficient services; in some areas they are regional or inter-municipal bodies. The primary tasks are fire suppression, rescue work in accidents and difficult conditions, and the protection of people, property, and the environment. They also participate in disaster preparedness, risk assessment, and readiness for large-scale emergencies, drawing on support from other authorities such as the police and health services as needed.
