Peñalara

Peñalara is a mountain located in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range, within the Community of Madrid and Castile and León, Spain. It is the highest peak in the Sierra de Guadarrama, reaching an elevation of 2,428 meters (7,966 feet) above sea level. The massif is composed of granite and is known for its distinctive rocky summits and glacial cirques.

The area around Peñalara is a protected natural park, the Parque Natural de Peñalara, established in 1990. This park encompasses diverse ecosystems, including pine forests, rocky slopes, and high mountain meadows, supporting a variety of flora and fauna. Notable plant species include certain alpine flowers, while the animal life includes species such as the Iberian ibex, various birds of prey, and small mammals.

Peñalara is a popular destination for hiking and mountaineering. Numerous trails lead to its summit, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Guadarrama range and beyond.
