Paylatlar

Paylatlar refers to a subgroup of the Lake people, an indigenous group living in the eastern region of Turkmenistan. The Lake people traditionally resided along the shores of the Galkynysh Lake and in surrounding areas.

Paylatlar culture, while part of the broader Lake people group, shows distinct characteristics. Their language, known as Paylatlar teke, belongs to the Turkic group, with close ties to the Oghuz languages spoken in other regions. This linguistic affiliation likely resulted from historical migrations and interactions with neighboring Turkic-speaking groups.

Economic activities among the Paylatalr included fishing, hunting, and herding. The Galkynysh Lake and surrounding territories provided an abundance of resources, supporting a subsistence-based economy.

In terms of social organization, the traditional Paylatlar society was likely matrilineal or patrilineal in nature. This aspect is not definitively recorded; however, some research suggests a mixed social structure, although more studies are required to fully understand.
