Passbohrung

A passbohrung, often translated as a locating bore or clearance bore, is a precisely machined hole in a component that serves to accurately align and position another component, typically a pin, shaft, or bolt. The primary function of a passbohrung is to provide a defined and repeatable location for mating parts, ensuring correct assembly and preventing misalignment.

The diameter of a passbohrung is usually slightly larger than the feature it is intended to locate. This clearance allows for easy insertion of the mating part and accommodates minor variations in manufacturing tolerances. The size of the clearance is critical; too large and the locating function is compromised, too small and assembly may be difficult or impossible.
