Pashëndetshme

Pashëndetshme is an Albanian adjective meaning unhealthy or unwholesome. It is formed from the negative prefix pa- meaning “without” and the word shëndetshëm meaning “healthy,” yielding a term used to describe things that are not conducive to health. In Albanian, adjectives agree with the noun they modify, so masculine singular forms can be pashëndetshëm and feminine singular forms are pashëndetshme; both share the same root and are used to describe different nouns accordingly.

The word is commonly employed to describe foods, environments, habits, or conditions that may harm health or undermine well-being. It appears in everyday speech, media, and public discourse when labeling diets, lifestyles, or surroundings as not good for health. For example, one might refer to a diet as pashëndetshme (unhealthy), an environment as pashëndetshëm (unhealthy), or unhealthy habits as zakone pashëndetshme.

Pashëndetshme contrasts with i shëndetshëm (healthy) and with phrases like jo i shëndetshëm or i dëmshëm për shëndetin, which are other ways to express health-related harm. While not a technical medical term, the adjective is widely understood and used to communicate health considerations in everyday Albanian.
