Paruns

Paruns are a traditional form of folk music and dance originating from the coastal regions of the Indian state of Kerala, particularly among the communities of the Malabar district. The term "Parun" is derived from the Malayalam word "parayunnu," which means "to dance or perform." This cultural practice is deeply rooted in the agricultural and social rhythms of the region, often performed during festivals, harvest celebrations, and communal gatherings.

The music of Parun is characterized by its lively tempo and simple melodies, typically accompanied by instruments such as the *chenda* (a type of drum), *thimila* (a small drum), and *elathalam* (a pair of cymbals).
