Partialladung
Partialladung refers to the uneven distribution of electron density within a molecule, resulting in some atoms having a net positive charge and others a net negative charge. This phenomenon arises from differences in electronegativity between bonded atoms. Electronegativity is the measure of an atom's ability to attract shared electrons in a chemical bond. When two atoms with different electronegativities form a covalent bond, the electrons in the bond are pulled closer to the more electronegative atom. This unequal sharing creates a partial negative charge (denoted by the symbol delta-minus, δ-) on the more electronegative atom and a partial positive charge (denoted by the symbol delta-plus, δ+) on the less electronegative atom.
Molecules containing polar covalent bonds exhibit partial charges. For instance, in a water molecule (H₂O), oxygen
Partial charges play a crucial role in determining the physical and chemical properties of molecules. They
