Paripinto

Paripinto is a municipality and administrative center of Paripinto District in the Valoria region of Veridia. It is situated in the highlands at roughly 900 meters above sea level, covering about 72 square kilometers. The landscape features rolling hills, small rivers, and patches of cloud forest at higher elevations. The climate is temperate with a rainy season from November to April.

History and name origins: The town traces its origins to mid-17th century settlement by traders and farmers, with municipal status granted in the late 19th century. The name Paripinto is believed to derive from a local indigenous language, commonly interpreted as meaning “two rivers,” reflecting the confluence near the town.

Demographics and economy: As of the 2020 census, Paripinto has about 12,300 residents. The economy is primarily agricultural, with coffee, maize, and fruits as core crops, complemented by dairy farming and small-scale manufacturing. The town serves as a local market and service hub for surrounding rural communities.

Government and services: Paripinto operates under a mayor-council government. Public services include a municipal hospital, several primary and secondary schools, and a regional police post. The town is connected by a regional road to the national highway network; bus services link Paripinto with nearby urban centers.

Culture and landmarks: The community hosts an annual harvest festival in September and a weekly market. Notable sites include the colonial parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (18th century) and the Vista del Río viewpoint.
