This phase is marked by the formation of granulation tissue, which appears red and granular.

The final phase is remodeling or maturation. This stage can last for months or even years. Collagen is reorganized and strengthened, making the scar tissue more resilient. The scar gradually fades and becomes less noticeable. The tensile strength of the healed wound increases over time, though it rarely reaches the strength of the original, uninjured tissue.
