Parametrinis

Parametrinis is an adjective in Lithuanian derived from the word parameter (parametras) and is used to describe methods, models, or forms that depend on one or more parameters to define a system or relationship. The term appears across scientific and technical disciplines and commonly contrasts with non-parametric approaches.

In mathematics and geometry, a parametric representation expresses coordinates as functions of one or more parameters. For example, a curve can be described by x = x(t) and y = y(t). Parametric forms allow the description of complex shapes, motion, and trajectories, and they can simplify operations such as differentiation and integration in certain contexts.

In statistics and data analysis, parametric models assume an underlying distribution characterized by a finite set of parameters (for instance, a normal distribution determined by its mean and standard deviation). Parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, and inference follow from this assumed form. The main advantages are efficiency and interpretability when the assumption holds; the main drawback is potential model misspecification.

In design and engineering, parametric design uses adjustable parameters to control geometry. Changes to a parameter automatically propagate through the model, enabling rapid exploration of alternatives and optimization.

Parametrinis can also be contrasted with non-parametric or semi-parametric approaches, which do not fix a specific parameterized form. The concept of parametrinis thus encompasses a broad idea of dependency on parameters across mathematics, statistics, and design.
