Parallelströmung

Parallelströmung refers to a fluid flow where the streamlines are parallel to each other and do not intersect. This implies that the fluid velocity vector at any point in the flow is parallel to the velocity vector at all other points along the same streamline. In a parallel flow, there are no velocity gradients in the direction perpendicular to the flow. This means that the fluid is moving at the same velocity across its entire cross-section, assuming the streamlines fill the entire domain.

This idealized flow condition simplifies many fluid dynamics calculations. Examples of parallel flow can be found in situations where a fluid flows through a very wide and shallow channel or across a large, flat surface. In such cases, the effects of viscosity and any external forces might be distributed evenly, leading to a nearly uniform velocity profile. Real-world flows often deviate from perfect parallel flow due to factors like viscosity, pressure gradients, and the geometry of the boundaries. However, the concept of parallel flow is a useful starting point for understanding more complex fluid behaviors and is often assumed in introductory fluid mechanics problems. It represents a state of pure translation without any rotation or deformation of fluid elements.
