Parallelprojektsioon

Parallelprojektsioon is a method of projecting an object or scene onto a plane. In this type of projection, the projection lines are all parallel to each other. This contrasts with perspective projection, where projection lines converge at a single point.

There are several types of parallel projection. Orthographic projection is a common form where the projection lines are perpendicular to the projection plane. This results in views that preserve the relative proportions of the object. Cabinet projection and Cavalier projection are types of oblique parallel projection, where the projection lines are not perpendicular to the projection plane. In oblique projections, one face of the object is typically shown parallel to the projection plane, while other faces are foreshortened.

Parallel projection is widely used in technical drawings, architectural plans, and engineering schematics. Because it avoids the distortion that can occur with perspective projection, it is excellent for showing precise measurements and details of an object. It is also simpler to construct than perspective projections. However, parallel projections can sometimes lack the realism and depth perception that perspective projections offer, making them appear flatter or less dynamic. The choice between parallel and perspective projection depends on the intended purpose of the representation.
