Parallaxsäätö

Parallaxsäätö, often referred to as parallax adjustment or parallax correction, is a technique used primarily in optics, especially with sighting devices like telescopes and rifle scopes, to compensate for the apparent shift in an object's position when viewed from different angles. This shift, known as parallax, occurs because the reticle (the aiming crosshair or aiming point) and the target are in different focal planes.

When the observer's eye moves slightly from the optical axis of the sighting device, the reticle appears to move relative to the target. This is particularly problematic at long distances or when precise aiming is critical, as it can lead to aiming errors. Parallaxsäätö aims to eliminate this discrepancy.

The adjustment mechanism, often a rotating knob or ring located on the side or objective bell of the scope, allows the user to change the focal plane of the objective lens. By adjusting this mechanism, the observer can bring the reticle and the target into the same focal plane. When this is achieved, the apparent shift of the reticle relative to the target is minimized or eliminated, ensuring that the point of aim is the true point of impact, regardless of minor eye movements.

This feature is essential for accurate shooting, especially in disciplines requiring precision at varying distances. It is also found in some scientific instruments where precise alignment and observation are necessary. The effective range for parallax correction is typically indicated on the adjustment mechanism.
