Papmochani

Papmochani is a Hindu festival observed on the Chaturdashi (14th day) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon phase) in the month of Chaitra, according to the Hindu lunisolar calendar. This day is dedicated to Goddess Parvati in her form as Papmochani Mata, the cleanser of sins. The name "Papmochani" itself translates to "the one who erases sins."

The observance of Papmochani Ekadashi is considered highly auspicious for the eradication of sins and negative karma. Devotees fast on this day, abstaining from food and sometimes even water, as a form of penance and spiritual purification. The primary aim of the fast is to seek the blessings of Goddess Parvati to be absolved of past wrongdoings and to live a virtuous life.

It is believed that observing this fast with sincere devotion can lead to spiritual progress and a clear conscience. Many recitations of mantras dedicated to Goddess Parvati and reading of scriptures related to her glory are undertaken during the day. The puja (worship) usually involves offering flowers, fruits, and other traditional items to the deity. The festival is celebrated with fervor in various parts of India, particularly in North India.
