The process involves placing the filter paper into a funnel or support structure, then pouring or directing the mixture to be separated onto the filter paper. The liquid or gas, often referred to as the filtrate, passes through the pores of the paper and is collected below, while the solid material, known as the residue or precipitate, remains on the surface of the filter paper. The type of filter paper used is crucial, as different papers have varying pore sizes, dictating the smallest particle that can be retained.

Pabersõeltest is a fundamental technique in chemistry, biology, and environmental science.
