Paarungstypen
Paarungstypen, often translated as mating types, are a concept found in some organisms, particularly fungi and protozoa, that are not characterized by distinct male and female sexes. Instead of two sexes, these organisms have multiple mating types, often designated by numbers or letters (e.g., + and -, or A, B, C, D). For successful sexual reproduction to occur, individuals of compatible mating types must come together. This compatibility system prevents self-fertilization and promotes genetic diversity within the population.
The mechanism of mating type determination varies. In some cases, it is controlled by a single gene
