The PRIIPs Regulation, short for "Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products," is a piece of European Union legislation. Its primary objective is to enhance investor protection by requiring manufacturers and distributors of PRIIPs to provide a standardized Key Information Document (KID). This KID aims to make PRIIPs more transparent and easier for retail investors to understand, compare, and make informed investment decisions.

The regulation applies to a broad range of investment products sold to retail investors, including certain investment funds, insurance products with investment elements, and structured products. The KID must contain essential information about the product, such as its nature and main features, risks, costs, and potential performance scenarios. This standardized disclosure is intended to level the playing field and ensure that investors receive consistent and comparable information across different products and member states.

The PRIIPs Regulation came into effect in stages, with initial implementation in December 2017. It has been subject to ongoing review and amendments to adapt to market developments and address practical challenges identified by regulators and industry participants.
