POLQAalgoritmi

POLQAalgoritmi refers to the Perceptual Objective Listening Quality Assessment algorithm. It is a widely used objective measurement tool for assessing the quality of speech signals. Unlike subjective listening tests where human listeners rate speech quality, POLQAalgoritmi uses mathematical models to predict how a human would perceive the quality.

The algorithm is designed to simulate the human auditory system's response to various distortions that can occur in speech transmission, such as noise, echoes, and compression artifacts. It compares a degraded speech signal to a reference, clean speech signal. The comparison is not a simple signal-to-noise ratio but takes into account perceptual aspects like loudness, masking, and psychoacoustic properties.

POLQAalgoritmi produces a single numerical score, typically on a scale from 1 to 4.5 or 5, where higher scores indicate better perceived speech quality. This score is often referred to as the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) prediction, as it aims to correlate with the results of subjective MOS tests. It has become a de facto standard in many industries, including telecommunications, for evaluating the performance of voice services and codecs. The algorithm is a result of extensive research and development in speech processing and psychoacoustics, aiming for a balance between accuracy and computational efficiency.
