PMRDA

PMRDA, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, is a statutory planning and development authority established by the Government of Maharashtra under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Act, 2016. Its mandate is to plan, coordinate, and regulate development across the Pune Metropolitan Region, which includes the city of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding urban areas in Pune district and adjacent talukas. The objective is to promote sustainable, balanced growth and to ensure integrated provision of housing, transport, utilities, and other infrastructure. It superseded the Pune Metropolitan Region Planning Board and consolidated planning powers for the region.

The authority's core functions include preparing and periodically updating the Master Plan for the region, framing development control regulations, and approving land development proposals within its jurisdiction. It also coordinates with municipal corporations, councils, and other government bodies to implement major infrastructure projects and public facilities, and to facilitate land acquisition and financing for strategic developments when required. PMRDA has powers to designate and regulate land use, acquire land for public purposes in the region, and to levy development charges to fund projects.

The governance structure comprises a chairman appointed by the state government, a board of members from government entities and local authorities, and a CEO who heads day-to-day operations. The authority operates from its headquarters in Pune and collaborates with state and federal agencies to align regional planning with statewide development initiatives.
