PEGylációval is the Hungarian term for PEGylation. PEGylation is a process in which polyethylene glycol (PEG), a polymer, is covalently attached to a molecule. This modification is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry to improve the properties of therapeutic proteins and other drug molecules.

The attachment of PEG to a drug can significantly alter its pharmacokinetic profile. It often increases the drug's solubility in aqueous solutions, which can be beneficial for formulation and administration. Furthermore, PEGylation can reduce the immunogenicity of a protein, meaning the body's immune system is less likely to recognize it as foreign and mount an immune response. This can be particularly important for protein-based therapeutics.

Another major advantage of PEGylation is the extension of a drug's half-life in the body. The bulky PEG chain can protect the attached molecule from enzymatic degradation and reduce its clearance by the kidneys. This allows for less frequent dosing, which can improve patient compliance and reduce side effects. While PEGylation offers numerous benefits, potential drawbacks include the possibility of reduced biological activity of the modified drug and the potential for immune responses against the PEG itself, although this is generally less common than with unmodified proteins.
