Oölites
Oölites are small, spherical grains typically composed of calcium carbonate, though other minerals can form oölitic structures. They range in size from 0.25 to 2 millimeters in diameter and are characterized by a concentric layered structure, resembling tiny eggs, hence the name derived from the Greek word "ōion" meaning egg. These layers form as minerals precipitate out of water, accumulating around a nucleus, which can be a shell fragment, a grain of sand, or even a bubble.
Oölites form in environments where there is a high degree of agitation and supersaturation of minerals in
When oölitic grains accumulate in large quantities and become cemented together, they form a sedimentary rock
