Ozonikestävyys refers to the ability of a material to withstand degradation caused by ozone. Ozone (O3) is a highly reactive gas that can attack and break down many organic materials, particularly polymers and rubber. This process, known as ozonolysis, leads to chain scission and cross-linking, resulting in embrittlement, cracking, and loss of mechanical properties.

Materials with good ozonikestävyys are essential in applications where exposure to ozone is likely. This includes outdoor products like tires, hoses, and seals, as well as electrical insulation and certain types of coatings.
