Another common application of overlay protocols is in content delivery networks (CDNs), where content is distributed across a network of servers. CDNs use overlay protocols to route user requests to the nearest or most appropriate server, improving performance and reducing latency. Similarly, peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing systems often employ overlay protocols to manage the connections and data transfers between participating nodes. The flexibility and adaptability of overlay protocols make them crucial for modern networking, enabling new services and enhancing existing ones.
