Overføringsmekanismer, or transfer mechanisms in English, refers to the various ways that heat, mass, and momentum are transported from one location to another. These mechanisms are fundamental in understanding a wide range of physical and chemical processes, from weather patterns and industrial chemical reactions to biological functions.

Heat transfer occurs through conduction, convection, and radiation. Conduction is the transfer of heat through direct contact, typically in solids. Convection involves the movement of heat through the bulk motion of fluids (liquids or gases). Radiation is the transfer of heat through electromagnetic waves, such as sunlight.

Mass transfer describes the movement of chemical species from one location to another. This can happen through diffusion, where molecules move from a region of high concentration to low concentration, or through convection, where the bulk movement of a fluid carries the species along. Advection is a specific term for convective mass transfer.

Momentum transfer, also known as fluid friction or viscosity, describes the transport of momentum within a fluid. In a moving fluid, layers of fluid with different velocities exert shear forces on each other, causing momentum to be transferred. This is responsible for phenomena like drag and the development of boundary layers.

Understanding these transfer mechanisms is crucial for engineers and scientists in fields such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, chemical engineering, and environmental science. Accurate modeling and prediction of these processes allow for the design of efficient systems and the mitigation of undesirable effects.
