Otsingutulemite

Otsingutulemite is a fictional creature in Estonian folklore and contemporary fantasy literature. It is described as a luminescent firemite that appears to those who seek something in darkness.

The name combines otsing ('search') with tule ('fire' or 'light') and mite, evoking a small glowing being that follows the seeker's path. The term is used primarily in folk-inspired narratives and modern Estonian fantasy.

It is described as a tiny, wingless mite-like organism about 2–3 millimeters long, with a warm amber glow. It leaves a brief glittering trail and avoids direct staring, sometimes dimming when observed, similar to other light legends.

Otsingutulemite is said to dwell near hearths, old campfires, and forest clearings where ancient fires burned. It favors twilight hours and misty nights, and is sometimes attributed to damp, peat-rich landscapes common in northern Estonia.

In tales, the creature guides seekers toward what they truly search for rather than what they expect. It is a symbol of curiosity and inner insight. The concept appears in children's books and tabletop fantasy in Estonia.
